Learning changes lives by helping us develop the will, knowledge, skill, and capacity to achieve our aspirations. To ensure and support every student is successful, MC2 uses a proficiency based model of progression, where students move on to new learning Phases they've demonstrated (that means documented and defended) their mastery of the competencies in projects. It's all outlined here.
The competencies make up the meat of our learning model. MC2 uses two complimentary frameworks for curriculum:
  1. Discipline competencies: Academic Identities (Middle School) and Essential Knowledge (High School)
    which pull from state and national content standards, including the Common Core State Standards
    and
  2. Life Long Learning competencies: Habits of Being, Habits of Mind
    which evolved from the Critical Skills movement, but also share traits with 21st century skills, work place skills, and other skills/dispositions based competencies

All of these competencies are documented on checklists, which students fill in at their own pace, according to their own priorities (or the priorities of the Learning Team). The checklists, paired with key rubrics, maintain a high level of rigor within the structures, while providing remarkable flexibility for the learner and the learning opportunities.

Most MC2 structures have a "snowball effect" whereby, if a learner keeps up with the smaller, daily versions of a requirement, they have a cumulative effect for preparing for larger requirements.
